Top 10 Most Overlooked Home Maintenance Items

I go on a lot of listing appointments.  I have to admit, I have these conversations about home 🏡 improvements over and over again.  The rise of Fixer Upper, HGTV, Property Brothers and the like, have made every home owner believe they are in a major competition with home improvements and upgrades with everyone on the planet 🌎.  While that is good for ratings and, let’s be honest, it is good for resale values 💵…sometimes, the most practical home maintenance are overlooked. While people can become distracted with the home 🏡 improvement vein, the maintenance items are the ones that suffer.  So, today, I want to give you a little look 👀 into 10 of the most overlooked home maintenance items.

Check the water 💧 softener and replenish salt if necessary. Check for leaks as well.

Clean faucet aerators and shower 🚿 heads to remove mineral deposits - You can use vinegar to remove hard water build up on shower heads.
Inspect outside drains, outflow areas where water exits for debris or clogging.
Inspect tub 🛁 and sink drains for debris; unclog.
Test smoke 💨 alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, fire 🔥 extinguishers, and all ground-fault circuit interrupters.
Inspect electrical cords for wear.
Vacuum heat registers and heat vents and return ducts.
Clean the garbage disposal by grinding ice cubes, then flushing with hot water 💦 and baking soda.
Dryer exhaust vents and lent buildup removal by purchasing a long handle wire brush.
Clean out gutters 2x per year and rid of debris, leaves, etc.

Taking a Saturday calendar 📆 or a few minutes 🕰 a couple of times a year can help you avoid the dreaded Home Inspector visit…ok, Home Inspectors are not really someone to dread, but you will get a head start on some items that will not be of concern when you do decide to sell your home 🏡 .  And…it is my hope that you will call Tommy McMahan to sell when that day comes!
